According to MyDisabilityJobs, “the unemployment for neurodivergent adults runs at least as high as 30-40% which is three times the rate for people with disability, and eight times the rate for people without disabilities.” This has been an ongoing problem in the United States for years, and many companies are recognizing this and making a push to be more inclusive. MyDisabilityJobs also found that neurodiverse teams are 30% more productive than neurotypical ones and made fewer errors.

With these statistics, it is clear that more organizations should be opening their doors to the neurodivergent community and providing career opportunities. HireVue is just one of the companies that is making that happen.

HireVue is an organization that provides other companies with “video interviewing software, conversational AI, and pre-hire assessments” to make the hiring process more efficient. According to an article from Forbes, HireVue is pushing and making sure any autistic and neurodivergent candidates are at the front of the hiring pool. Their founders were aware of the severe discrimination that occurs in the job market, and they are making the push for hiring managers and team leaders to be inclusive to any candidate who is interested in a career.

HireVue provides hiring managers with various tips and methods to ensure that the hiring process is accessible to those who are neurodivergent. As the neurodivergent community tends to face more anxiety about interviews and job hiring processes, some methods can make it easier and more efficient for them. These steps include making sure any video questions can be re-recorded, offering the candidate a thorough preview of the different interview stages, and giving various examples for questions. The entire HireVue team is also constantly researching to ensure their technology accounts for the needs of neurodivergent candidates.

Dr. Colin Willis, IO psychology program manager at HireVue, stated “Autistic and neurodivergent candidates are a completely overlooked group of talent … not only is this a crisis from a moral perspective, it’s an economic travesty at a time when businesses are so desperate to fill roles.”

Organizations should be taking note of these methods from HireVue, and ensure they are being put in place at their company to make it a comfortable and inclusive environment for anyone.
